Finn | The Soft Florist
Introduction
This YuuriVoice original character debuted on August 13th, 2020, in the series Talk Floral. Finn is a sweet, freckled florist who is soft spoken and sweeter than an alyssum. He's also an unhinged yandere who is madly in love. He's also a...rabbit? Finn is an anomaly that is yet to be explored, but is tied to BitterSweet, Shattered, and every other facet of the narrative that pulses through all of the YuuriVoice stories. For more on that, you'll want to meet Finneas and his story Echoes of Evalas.
Background & Traits
A lover of nature and the language of flowers, Finn is a gentle and at times timid soul that enjoys info dumping about his latest floral arrangement and sipping tea while lovingly chatting up his buds. While he may be shy at first blush, once he's comfortable he may just shock you with a bold turn of phrase and flirtatious bit of banter. His past and future are both hazy, with his general interactions being falling into a distinct niche of wish fulfillment. Most commonly, he's sweetly romancing the listener, but there are other instances of Finn that march to the beat of a different drum.
The shards of a shattered soul.
Garden Variety Finn
This shard of Finn is the gentle, softspoken florist that many dreamers have come to know and love. He is conflict avoidant, happy to fit as neatly as possible into whatever mold suits the needs and desires of the world around him. He enjoys simplicity and calm, practices magic, and speaks fondly of an unnamed Goddess. His greatest desire is to live peacefully within nature, and in a perfect world, he would live humbly in the countryside in a small cottage. Simple. Without strife, or hurt, or worry...and wrapped in love.
Bunny Finn
This fidgety, needy rabbit is a shard that has been found indulging the more carnal desires of dreamers that find the idea of trying to satisfy the ravenous hunger of a humanoid bunny that is in need of physical relief. Get it? Because bunnies breed a lot! There is truly not that much to this rascally rabbit other than being embarrassed by his desires, the appetite for touch that he displays is one that carries the slightest hint of shame. Thankfully, his worries are soothed along with the tension brewing in his loins again and again.
Yandere Finn
A distinct, twisted shard that mirrors Garden Variety Finn, but is defined by a yandere archetype that yearns for his "orchid". There has been very little cohesion between the small windows into this iteration of Finn, but over time something new began to take root. What was once just a dark fantasy for dreamers who yearned for the kind of unhinged desperation and juxtaposition of a soft, gentle lover driven to madness by the depths of his desire began to evolve...
Withered Finn
Oh my, you've really come this far for me? Sorry love, this particular shard needs a little more time to take root. I'll not keep you waiting for much longer.
So, About Finn...
This part is for anyone who is confused and seeking a little bit of clarity on what Finn's deal is. At his inception, Finn was created to fulfill the script for Talk Floral, submitted by Alicia Drayce, but once the short series was wrapped I was left with a soft florist with no past, a very sweet and lovely present, and no future. This all occurred before the umbrella of the broader YuuriVoice narrative began to take shape. There was no intention (and active pushback against the idea of) wrapping up all of the characters in a shared universe, because they were designed to be enjoyed in one off ASMR Boyfriend scenarios......right? RIGHT!?
Well, over time things changed. BitterSweet "debuted" shortly after Talk Floral, but didn't become BitterSweet until Chapter 2 when it was clear that the more story driven direction was going to stick and found an audience. Which left Finn in a sort of limbo as a very cute, charming character with no real roots to speak of.
He got several AUs and one-shots, as well as the vague connective tissue that his Garden Variety self was baked with. But for such a fun character, something was still missing.
In BitterSweet Chapter 3, the world got a glimpse of what was going on behind the scenes when a magical Finn meddled with things in shocking ways, but it would be much longer before the true nature of the solution I cooked up would come to light.
Finn, or Finneas, is a key player in the events set to unfold in Echoes of Evalas and everything Beyond. I sought to protect and maintain the shards of Finn that we've collected thus far, with canonical explanations for how and why those instances of Finn are their own, tangible, sovereign individuals. They are not retconned or erased, but rather, parts of a greater story while remaining in their own.
Each shard represents a core piece of Finneas, a feeling, trait, or experience so raw and profound that it took shape in the Beyond. They reflect the whole, who resides in Evalas, and has yet to face the repercussions of his meddling. Those shards are none the wiser, living their lives in the dreams they reside in, blissfully indulging in their core desires.
And yes, this does mean that Bunny Finn is essentially the embodiment of an inner desire to...be a gooner, I guess? Look, they don't have therapy in Evalas.
Weaving characters into a narrative backwards has been a challenge, but one that I think has a fairly interesting solution that makes Finn an even more intriguing character with no shortage of things to do. I hope this clears things up!
